A bit about Autumn, AKA Mouse. We adopted Mouse in September 2018 after finding her in Petfinders. We don't know much about Mouse. She was brought into a shelter with a broken, rear, left leg. It was decided by the rescue that the leg, which had healed wrong, could not be fixed, was causing her pain and needed to come off. We were told by her foster mom and having it removed didn't slow the little girl down a bit! And she has proven that time and time again. Both the foster parent and our vet agree that she is around 9 or10 years old.
Now...she has 6 other "brothers and sisters". All but one are seniors. The pit-mix, who is about 6, had a minor disagreement with Mouse a bit after we adopted her. After that, Mouse has no problem with telling AND showing her (by barking and nipping at her legs) who's Boss. They get along very well and we are lucky to have all the "kids". I will be posting photos of all...eventually.
AN UPDATE ON OUR SPOKESBEEGLE: Mouse is doing extremely well! She has really settled in and keeps us all in line.
I've learned in the last couple of weeks that this time of year (November thru December) seems to be the time that people turn in older pets to rescues and shelters. Why? People don't want to "deal with" older pets over the holidays, their children have gone off to college and now don't want to "deal with their kids pets" or they are looking for a "new and improved" version as a gift for the holidays. Personally....we don't get that.
So...if you are looking for a new best friend we would suggest adopting an older pet. Not only are they usually housebroken, trained in basic commands and move a little slower but they, just like us, will appreciate a good home in their twilight years.
